Hunan Kun Opera is a major local opera in Hunan. During the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, Kun Opera was introduced to Hunan and flourished in the southern Hunan area centered around Guiyang. It has an assortment of repertoires and enjoys a high reputation in the world. The opera was listed as one of representative works of human oral and ICH by UNESCO in 2001. In 2006, Hunan Kun Opera Troupe was listed as the protection subject of national intangible cultural heritage.
